We have just completed another busy but great week.
Sunday afternoon, November 15, 2009, we were blessed to share in the homegoing celebration of a well respected local pastor from Pasadena. Pastor Pat founded the church where we celebrated his life just a short time back. There were friends in attendance from across the area sharing ways in which this Man of God personally touched their lives. Even though I had only met Pastor Pat 2 weeks earlier, I knew immediately that he was truly sold out to his Savior, Jesus. Even in his death, he touched the life of several as they asked Jesus to become their personal Savior at the memorial service.
Monday night was our official kick-off party. With a great turnout of friends and supporters, we enjoyed great music, fun and fellowship. We were blessed by music from Lisa Drout and excited by music provided from Lucy “the female Elvis”.
We were further blessed by the generous donations provided by those in attendance with the promise of not only donating financially but with their valuable time as we work through the primary and on to the general election in November.
Tuesday night was a late night as we attended the Cherry Tree Republican meeting with guest speaker Dan Patrick. With a crowd of over 200, the place was packed. During this meeting the new Board of Directors was installed. I was humbled as the members voted to place me on the board. If you are not familiar with Cherry Tree, you need to be. They are one of the most respected and Conservative (both fiscally and morally) Republicans in Texas. Cherry Tree meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday night we attended the Republican National Hispanic Assembly meeting where I serve as First Vice Chair. This meeting is always informative. This group is involved deeply in reaching out to non-traditional voters that are conservative and bringing them into the Republican ranks. We have worked closely with many groups including officials from Honduras during their current disagreement with the US Administration (Obama/Clinton Regime) brought on by Honduras’ constitutional removal of a criminal president from office.
Thursday morning, I assisted a Viet-Nam Vet that has been affected by Agent Orange through his ordeal at the VA Hospital. It was a last minute opportunity for which I am grateful. The first thing he needed was to refill his blood pressure medicine. After standing in line for about 15 minutes, he was told we needed to see his primary doctor before it could be refilled. I pushed his wheelchair to the primary care physician, Dr. Marcelli, to request the refill. Marcelli told him he was too busy to take care of it and sent him to see Alice, his nurse. After waiting another 10 minutes for her to get off of the phone and explaining the need and doctor’s instructions multiple times, we were told she would take care of it. Off we went to his actual appointment where the news was good. This doctor was rushed, but did take all time necessary to make sure his patients were taken care of. He asked us to do anything we could to raise the awareness of their need for additional staff. When we completed this appointment we headed back to the pharmacy where we waited in line for 30 minutes only to be told the doctor had not entered the prescription. Of course we immediately went back to the primary care physician to see why the prescription was not available to the pharmacy. Marcelli then told this man that laid his life on the line for our freedoms that he didn’t have time for him and he would have to leave. We left without Blood Pressure Medication armed with the knowledge that our Vets are not receiving the care they deserve. We have to fight harder for them than ever before.
Thursday night I attended and took part in the East Gulf Coast Conservative Assembly meeting. This group which I have been a member of for 5 – 6 years recently changed its name from East Gulf Coast Republican Assembly, in order to set itself apart from those moderate and liberal leaning groups that have been established over the years, yet call themselves Republican. This group meets at China-Ko on BW-8 on the last Thursday of each month. The meeting starts at 7:00 pm. This group actually meets in Congressional District 29.
Friday I met with a number of conservatives from across the nation at a Craft Fair. What a great place to get the real pulse of our nation. The conclusion we all reached is that true Conservatism, both fiscally and morally, along with a large portion of God’s unending grace, is the only hope this nation has.
Today, Sunday November 22, 2009, we were invited to enjoy a Thanksgiving Dinner with Vets and their families at one of our local American Legion Posts. It was great to be able to spend this time with former members of each branch of our military as we celebrate a special day of Thanks. We do have so much to be thankful for in our lives, even with our nation in such turmoil. Thank you Lord for being Lord of all!!! Thank you Jesus for sacrificing everything, in order to provide us with the possibility of eternal life.
