Limited Government
True Conservatives believe in a limited government. As Newt Gingrich so aptly put it, “Government in the United States was designed to serve the interests of the people, not the government. This means that government must realize it does not own the money it spends – that money belongs to the people, who have chosen to tax themselves and offer some of their hard earned resources to government to do very specific and enumerated tasks with it.”
This is what limited government is. It is a philosophy that government was created to serve “We, the people” instead of the people serving the government. We believe it is the people who decide how the government best serves them. A lean and limited government allows those elected to office to serve the people by legislating issues and enacting laws that affect the country as a whole. We also acknowledge that it is the people who graciously provide funding for government through their hard-earned tax dollars.
A large government is exactly what the Founding Fathers sought to minimize, yet that is what we have today. The problem with a large government is that it is an insatiable beast. It’s appetite for expanding itself is never-ending. Ronald Reagan said it this way, “No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this Earth.”
We believe it is time to get America moving forward and elect Congressional leaders that know their place…to serve the people. It is time to elect a Congress that will work to reduce the size of government, reduce taxes, eradicate the national debt and restore America to greatness
